Family Assessment Device (FAD)

The McMaster's Family Assessment Device (FAD) evaluates families according to the McMaster Model of Family Functioning. The FAD is made up of seven scales which measure Problem Solving, Communication, Roles, Affective Responsiveness, Affective Involvement, Behavior Control and General Functioning.

Family functioning was repeatedly assessed using the Family Assessment Device (FAD) in both main caregivers and partners. Only the general functioning (GF) subscale was collected, which is a validated measure of well-being and/or pathology of the family situation. Half of the items described healthy functioning, and the other half defined unhealthy functioning. Participants are presented with 12 items that are responded to with a 4-point Likert scale.
