TRAILS: The Next Generation

TRAILS Next (TRacking Adolescents' Individual Lives Survey - the NEXT generation) focuses on the children of TRAILS participants. This study involves assessment of parents and/or children during pregnancy and when the children are 3, 30, 54 and 72 months. TRAILS Next will help to understand how parental characteristics influence the development of their children.

Purpose During adolescence and young adulthood, people go through profound changes, both physically and psychologically. These changes affect the way they interact with others, and how they process and cope with their experiences. The choices made and directions taken in these phases of life can have a major impact on future well-being, behavior and health, and even affect the next generation. More knowledge of the causes of a favorable or unfavorable development can help to prevent problems or treat them at an early stage. Not only problematic developmental trajectories are of interest, but successful ones as well.
