Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ)

A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) consists of a finite list of foods and beverages with response categories to indicate usual frequency of consumption over the time period queried.

The FFQs used in the Generation R Study were developed based on results from a national food consumption survey in the Netherlands, and included food items that are population and age specific. Briefly, FFQ during pregnancy has 293 items for pregnant women. FFQ at 1 year has 221 items for infant, FFQ at 2 years was only assessed in focus cohort; FFQ at 8 years has 71 items. Included questions concerned the frequency of consumption and portion sizes of these foods.
